What are the different types of Void fill?

There are many different types of packaging void fill you can use for packaging your items

Why use void fill?
Items when sent in cartons should not move within them, having them bounce and move around in them is what leads to breakages and damage. Also the parcel must be capable of absorbing shock from impacts.

Biofill Loose fill.

Biofill packaging peanuts is a time old favourite for filling up void in cartons, all peanuts made in Australia now are made from Biodegradable corn starch.
Biofill advantages:

  • Very eco friendly, compostable and degradable.
  • One of the more cost effective solutions

Disadvantages

  • Products can move in the Biofill, we don’t recommend to send glass items in biofill alone as the product can shuffle to the bottom of the biofill in transport and break.
  • Biofill takes up alot of space when not in use
  • Biofill is costly to transport due to its  size.
  • can be painful to use, as peanuts can go everywhere.

Packaging pillows

Packaging pillows are a very popular choice for void filling, the machines are cheap to purchase outright and the pillows are easy to store deflated, pillows offer excellent impact and shock resistance due to air transfer in the pillows, rather than pushing the air into your product air is transferred out of that position to help absorb the shock and keep your product safe.

  • Very cost effective
  • Easy to make when required with A pillow machine
  • Air transfer technology
  • variety of sizes available suit various goods
  • Products cant move around when packed din pillows.

Disadvantages

  • Not the most environmentally friendly solution, pillows can be recycled but may not be by end users.

Packaging paper

Paper void fill we see as the best void fill solutions, paper is stored with very little space requirements, is biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. Easy to use and package items. It can be used to package items upto 50kg.

Advantages

  • Highly cost effective
  • Most eco friendly, recyclable , compostable, degradable.
  • Excellent impact resistance
  • Products cant move in the paper
  • Fast and easy to use with automatic dispenser.

Disadvantages

  • No notable disadvantages for paper.

Bubblewrap

Bubblewrap can be used as void fill, but with the advances in other technology we believe bubblwrap is now well outclassed by other items. Bubblewrap is still great to put a layer or 2 of protection around a certain item, then the rest of the space filled with void fill in a carton. Bubblewrap can be used without a carton and wrapped around a product then placed directly into a mailbag. Melbpack bubblewrap is made in Australia by Polycell Australia

Advantages

  • Excellent protection
  • Goods cant move in the bubblewrap

Disadvantages

  • The most expensive void fill solution
  • Poor for the environment
  • Costly to transport to your location
  • Takes up lots of space when not being used

Hex paper, also known as Honeycomb paper, or paper bubblewrap is a new sort of wrap and void fill, its excellent as the last layer of protection of goods, but not the best to use as void fill.

  • eco friendly, recyclable , compostable, degradable.
  • Low storage space when not in use.
  • products cant move in the honeycomb paper

Disadvantages

  • Time consuming to fill larger voids
